OUR GROUP CHALLENGES
American Beauty
July 2016
"American Beauty" was the challenge suggested by Terry. Before we start the following lyrics were key to three of the pieces that answered the challenge.
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Terry's towels echo the lyrics with the colors in the song.

A crepe weave looks very different on the back.

Barbara also chose the lyrics to inspire color choice.

And they all got worked into this piece.

Darby used the colors to inspire this wonderful rug.

She knocks it out of the ballpark with this one.

Carie used the "American Beauty Rose" as her inspiration. It is pink.

She produced this lovely scarf that has such a wonderful hand. .

Leila took a clue from the "20s" and "flapper" beauties.

You could easily see this as a head band or dangling scarf. Very evocative.

Ronnie loved the beauty of early american coverlet designs. These mats are certainly beautiful.

She used several pattern threads in this overshot pattern called "Federal Knot". Terrific.
