OUR GROUP CHALLENGES
"Bookmark"
January 2018
"Bookmark" was the challenge suggested by Claudia. Photos below are given the order that the works were presented. Claudia - as it was her challenge - starts us off.
Claudia brought the draft for her bookmark as well as sample yarn. Very pretty. Everyone agreed that it was very difficult to weave such a narrow piece on a big loom.
In spite of the difficulty we think Claudia pulled this off with great style and skill.
Ronnie says that since electronic media seems to be replacing paper books her bookmarks are just to be looked at.
And aren't they fun! Still it would be wonderful to open a book with one of these finding your place.
Darby did this beautiful tapestry bookmarks. What wonderful colors and design. Clearly the master rug weaver was at work here.
And they can be joined end to end to make a very stylish cuff.
The heart motif was inspirtaion for Carie. It is all done in Summer and Winter. Each heart is a variation in the treadling. It makes for a very pretty bookmark right from the heart.
The verion on the right is another variation. It is taquete using different colors. Clearly this is a very versitile threading.
The huck lace bookmarks on the right were the first attempt at the challenge. The multicolored one on the left seemed the best answer however.
The multicolored one represents a web browser bookmark. And this is for the "Google" web site. Colors approximated the Google logo and the pattern is a name draft derived from the term "googlesearch".
Leila chose to represent the entire book with bookmarks inserted in various places. Success!
Those bookmarks were particularly beautiful as insered between the "pages" of this scarf.
Carol wove this spectacular bird bookmark on an inkle loom. It is Andean Pebble Weave. It is remarkable what you can do on a simple two shaft loom. Carol aced it here . . . twice.
.
The other bookmark is a cat of her own design. Wonderful, wonderful.
