OUR GROUP CHALLENGES
Modulations
March 2025
A reminder that the images below are links to enlarged versions.
"Modulations" was the challenge suggested by Carol. She found a number of challenge ideas in a book on tapestry. This is one of them and she will start us off.

Carol worked this wonderful scarf using different treadlings..
 .
That resulted in a lot of different patterns. Did it involve a lot of tie-up changes?. .

Katy asked one of her nieces what she thought modulation looked like and the niece responded with an album cover that had an image like this on it.

And it certainly modulates across the rug. Great interpretation Katy.

Thomas presented this terrific piece. It couldnt be more that 10 or so inches square. Warp is silk (very fine) and the weft is his hand dyed cashmere.

The sections of the warp occupy a group of shafts across the total of 22 on his loom. That allows for separate patterns in each group. Don't know how he keeps track. Kudos!

Terry modulated the colors across the width of this bamboo scarf. Then slowly modulated the colors down the length.

It is woven in an eight shaft crepe weave which means that there is very little pattern to be seen.
'

Claudia loves the modulation in Barry Manilow's songs. She used some handmade paper that she made in college to weave in some lyrics with the singer's picture.

Great Fun. We all took a turn at singing "Mandy".
