OUR GROUP CHALLENGES

Into the Light
January 2025

"Into the Light" was the challenge suggested by Carol. She found this in a book about tapestry. These were titles of some of the works and she thought they would make good challenges. Indeed they have!

Carol created this delightful piece with very tiny holiday lights.

. It was woven flat but because of the stiffness of the wires she was able to turn it into this shape. So wonderful.

Ronnie looked up the phrase "Into the Light" and found that it had meaning for the Christian Religion so she adopted a cross pattern.

The color purple is also symbolic in Christian vestments so it was a logical choice.

Katy loves the look of denim. That is in the weft of this beautiful rag rug. The denim came from shirts so it was lighter weight and color.

The strips of denim were not very long (5 inches!!!) so she spent some time splicing them together. The pattern is from Tom Knisley's book on rag rugs and is called "Chicken Tracks".

.
Thomas is continuing to work in this very fine double weave. This extraordinary piece is only four inches wide!.

He said that it took him around five minutes to raise the right threads for just one pick! Now that's dedication.

Terry is continuing work in bamboo. But in this case the yellow section is silk which was gifted to him some time ago.

"Into the Light" would be the rays coming from stars.

'
Claudia always surprises. She found this verse about light coming through cracks and it works perfectly here.

The weft is spun paper that she made at our local guild holiday party. Great stuff.
