Carry It or Tote It
November 2018
"Carry It or Tote It" was the challenge suggested by Carol.
Carol creted this delightful bag with material from The New York Guild of Handweavers program "Plain Weave is not so Plain".
What wonderful colors. Carol is also showing her terrific sewing ability. To be envied.
This delightful purse was Carie's sample from the "Echo and Iris" workshop she took at Convergence.
The pattern works spectacularly well here. And the colors are really stunning.
Terry's piece needs some explainaton. He always wanted to be able to sing well. But no talent. Thinking he might start with a simple tune he found the sheet music to "Frere Jacques". The notes looked like a profile draft which he converted to a threading/treadling combination. So now with these towels in hand he can at last "Carry" a tune.
Also the warp colors represent the French national colors: bleu, blanc, rouge.
Leila said she failed this challenge. She wove the material but simply didn't have the heart to cut into it. And who can blame her. This scarf is woderful as it is.
The tag by the way, is an image of her cat. Nice use of a favorite pet as a signature for her work.
Claudia wove the wonderful outer fabric for this tote. We all love the pinwheel design and this one is lovely.
The liner was an old tote that Claudia used as a model. Beautiful the way she worked it into the completed piece.
Darby answered the challenge with this delightful case to hold a magnifying glass. A real necessity these days of dark restaurants with small print menus.
The case was woven on a pin loom by the way. Charming colors and the button closure are just the right touch.
Ronnie thought totes meant totalling up all the numbers. Well here she says there are 78 ends for each pattern, 262 pics for each pattern repeat and a TOTAL of 986 pics for the whole piece.
Regardless of the count(s) this is a spectacular piece. Everyone agreed!!!!
