OUR GROUP CHALLENGES
Birds
December 2017
"Birds" was the challenge given to us by Darby. She in fact supplied some of the pictures that we worked from. Where we have the pictures they have been included in one of the images.

Darby's bird is this spectaculare Mandarin Duck. The colors in the bird and the rug and wonderful.

Another wonderful rug and it really matches the challenge.

Leila pictured birds in flight. Looking up at them you get flashes of their coloration.

She said she had fun with this one because she could go on and on and on with more color and textures. Another winner!

Claudia truely captured all the vivid colors in this bird. She said she fell in love with the warp. She had some issues with the flat tape for the weft but the results are spectacular.

All in all it works very well. Claudia is truly a very creative weaver.

Terry's bird was the Common Loon. Its basic black and white coloration works here. The red he said is for the color of the bird's eye in the photo.

The diamond patterning was meant to recall the bird's feather pattern.

Ronnie loves owls. Her colors in this scarf are certainly working with the image of the owl. Another Bateman weave structure. She has been exploring these for some time all with great results.

Look closely and you can almost see the owl's eyes peering out you.

Cross Town Shuttlers welcomes Carol to the group. Carol chose a Blue Jay as her inspiration. It works beautifully here.

Carol said it was the first time she has woven with wool. You wouldn't know that from the skill she has shown here. Congratulations.

Brought her current project. Dish towel for holiday giving. Wonderful coffee mug motif done in Summer and Winter. We envy the luck recipient.

Carie also brought this scarf and asked for finishing solutions. Several suggestions were made but everyone loved the tremendous use of color.
