OUR GROUP CHALLENGES
Weave using and Odd Number
July 2017
"Weave with an Odd number" was the challenge suggested by Leila. This time she will start us off.
She choose the numbers three, five and seven. She kept the amount of each weft block to one of those dimensions.
As usual she is fearless when it comes to combining texture and color. Brava!
Claudia worked from a sample that she showed at the last meeting. The three colors in this very elegant scarf are wonderfully subtle. Lovely.
The color scheme is very typical of Claudia. Always calm and gentle.
Another silk scarf from Terry. He is trying to use up a stash from long ago. Twill blocks are the structure.
There are nine different colors in this piece.
This was Anne Marie's first meeting with the group. She showed what she wove in a class on Polychrome Crackle Weave at the MAFA conference.
She said she wanted to stretch beyond her usual weaving. We think she did superb. Keep going Annie.
Darby keeps growing with more daring in the rep weave pictures. Those wedges in the weft are not easy to handle.
It would be really hard to say which one one likes the best. Both are stunning.
Wow! Ronnie worked this scarf in twenty-five colors!.
She joked that it would go together with ANY color so long as it was Black. Still it is a stunner.
Carie showed the results of her workshop at MAFA too. It was on colapsed weave. The piece on the left as it came off the loom and the one on the right after vigorous washing. Wow!
This was puckered because of differential shrinkage. Cotton warp and merino wool weft. Wouldn't it be neat to see a shawl made of this.
